Iran announces Book of the Year winners

The winners of the 34th Iran National Award for the Book of the Year and the 24th Iran World Award for the Book of the Year have been declared.

The winners were named during the event’s closing ceremony at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall on Tuesday.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Reza Salehi Amiri attended the event and gave speeches.

Last spring, a call was made for submissions to the 34th edition of the major book award event. The deadline to participate in the event was last August.

Eligible books for the award include those published for the first time in the previous fiscal year that ended in March 2016.

Iran Award for the Book of the Year is an annual award about books in categories of religion, social sciences, language, applied sciences, art and literature.

It aims to select and introduce the best books published in the previous year, and honor their authors, editors and translators to elevate general knowledge and culture.

Also, books published in various languages by foreign publishers within the previous year are evaluated and the President's Commemoration Plaque along with valuable prizes will be awarded to the selected books.
